The Federal Government has announced plans to replace the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) traditional khaki uniform with locally produced Adire fabric as part of sweeping reforms to the scheme.

Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, disclosed this during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, stating that the move is aimed at promoting local textile production and boosting Nigeria’s economy.
According to the minister, Adire, widely produced in states such as Ogun and Kwara, will be sourced locally to ensure government spending supports indigenous industries.
The uniform change is part of a broader overhaul of the 53-year-old scheme recently approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
Minister Olawande also revealed that the NYSC posting system will be restructured to align corps members’ deployments with their academic qualifications and professional backgrounds, replacing the current system of arbitrary postings.
The reforms are designed to reposition the NYSC as a skills-driven, productivity-focused program that contributes more directly to national development.
