Argentina has voiced concerns to FIFA over what they describe as an uneven buildup to the 2026 World Cup final against Spain.
Head coach Lionel Scaloni said his side faces a disadvantage due to a tighter schedule and difficult preparation conditions ahead of Sunday’s clash in New Jersey.
Argentina reached the final after a demanding semi-final win over England, while Spain advanced a day earlier with a 2–0 victory over France, giving them additional recovery time.
Scaloni also criticized the timing of Argentina’s training session, saying the team was required to train shortly after arriving from Atlanta. “We were forced to train at a time that wasn’t ideal,” he said, noting the session was shortened due to media obligations.
Preparation for both teams has also been disrupted by severe weather in New York, with storms delaying Argentina’s training and forcing Spain to cancel theirs entirely.
Despite the concerns, Scaloni said the team remains focused on recovery and assessing player fitness ahead of the final, while also acknowledging Spain’s quality.
Argentina, the defending champions, are aiming to retain their title, with Scaloni highlighting strong fan support as a key source of motivation.
