Labour Party chieftain Abayomi Arabambi has sued the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), over its alleged failure to release Peter Obi’s academic records.
In a suit filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, Arabambi is asking the court to compel UNN and its Vice-Chancellor to provide certified copies of records relating to a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy reportedly issued to Obi in 1984.
The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2144/2026, was filed on September 9 through his lawyer, Anderson Asemota.
Arabambi said he initially requested the records from the university on July 16 under the Freedom of Information Act but received no response. He said a reminder sent on August 31 was also allegedly ignored.
He is seeking an order of mandamus compelling the university to release the certificate, academic records, graduation and degree-award records, certificate-register entries and other official documents relating to the degree, where they exist.
The case is linked to questions Arabambi has previously raised over variations in Obi’s name across his academic and official records. Reports have previously identified differences in the names appearing on Obi’s WAEC, UNN and NYSC certificates, although the allegations have been disputed by Labour Party officials.
The court has yet to assign the case to a judge.
