Akpabio: Nigeria’s banks stronger, insecurity will end soon

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said Nigeria’s banking sector has become stronger and more resilient, while assuring Nigerians that the country’s insecurity will soon be defeated.

Akpabio made the remarks while urging Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu’s economic and security reforms.

He said ongoing bank consolidation and recapitalization had strengthened the financial sector, restored investor confidence, and improved protection for depositors’ funds.

According to him, the banking sector has moved from “survival to absolute dominance” under the Tinubu administration and is now among the safest and most technologically advanced in Africa.

On insecurity, Akpabio acknowledged that violence and criminality remained a major threat to economic development.

He said security agencies had shifted from a reactive approach to a more proactive fight against bandits, insurgents, and other criminal groups.

“The strategy has shifted from reaction to proactive confrontation, and I assure Nigerians that insecurity will be defeated,” he said.

Akpabio also called for greater cooperation between citizens and security agencies, urging Nigerians to report suspicious activities and provide credible intelligence.

He said military operations alone could not end insecurity, describing security as a collective responsibility.

The Senate President further acknowledged the economic difficulties faced by Nigerians, saying the sacrifices were part of efforts to address structural problems and build a stronger economy.

He urged Nigerians at home and abroad to support the government’s reform efforts and work with public institutions to promote national development.
