ADC Accuses Tinubu Govt Of Intimidating Opposition Ahead Of 2027 Elections

The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council (ADC-PCC) has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of using intimidation and suppression to weaken opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The council alleged that attacks on opposition members, demolition of campaign offices, and denial of access to campaign venues were aimed at discouraging political participation and undermining democratic freedoms.

In a statement issued by its Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, the council cited reported attacks on its members in Kaduna, the alleged assault on its Sokoto governorship candidate, Munir Dan Iya, and other incidents involving opposition figures.

It also raised concerns over the reported demolition of its governorship campaign office in Kebbi State and the alleged denial of a campaign venue to Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in Enugu State.

The ADC-PCC also cited attacks on African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, and expressed concern over the continued detention of former Kaduna State Governor and ADC chieftain, Nasir El-Rufai, whom it said was being denied bail.

The council further alleged that financial inducements were being offered to individuals to weaken opposition parties and secure their loyalty.

It warned that such actions threatened Nigeria’s multiparty democracy, insisting that Nigerians would resist attempts to restrict their constitutional rights to political participation.

The council called on Nigerians, regardless of political affiliation, to defend democratic freedoms and their right to freely choose their leaders.
