Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has questioned the quality of the club’s attacking trio, Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, insisting they are not good enough to lead the team to major trophies.
Speaking on Stick to United, Rooney criticized United’s recruitment, arguing that signing players who performed well at Wolverhampton Wanderers and Brentford would not necessarily make the club title contenders.
“They’re deluded if they think the front three that they’ve brought in are good enough; they’re not,” Rooney said.
He added that United’s squad remained far from the standard required to challenge for the Premier League title or compete at the highest level.
Rooney’s criticism comes amid United’s poor start to the 2026/27 season. The club sit 16th in the Premier League after winning just one of their first eight matches, including a 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth.
Manager Michael Carrick will have another opportunity to improve the team’s fortunes when United visit Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, October 31.
