Founding National Secretary of the Alliance for Democracy, Prof. Udenta O. Udenta, says the collapse of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has created room for a more competitive multi-party democracy in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Udenta made the remarks on Tuesday during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time, arguing that the decline of the PDP, which once dominated the country’s political landscape, has opened up the political space to other opposition parties.
He cited the emergence of opposition forces, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as evidence of growing political competition and warned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) against pushing Nigeria towards a one-party state.
“The era where one party dominates everything is gone. Out of the ashes of a broken PDP, we have recovered multi-party democracy,” he said.
Udenta urged political leaders to protect the country’s multi-party system and ensure the 2027 elections do not threaten national unity. He also proposed establishing a sovereign commission to safeguard democracy regardless of the election outcome.
