Adamawa PDP Suffers Mass Defection as 247 Officials Join APC

All 21 local government chairmen and 226 councillors in Adamawa State have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Adamawa APC Publicity Secretary, Victor Dogo, confirmed the mass defection, saying the elected officials wanted to align with Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who left the PDP for the APC in February.

The defections began on Monday, October 19, with several council chairmen submitting resignation letters to their respective PDP ward chairmen. Most cited personal reasons and consultations with family members and political associates.

Demsa Local Government Chairman, Akham Jalo, said his decision was motivated by the need to align with Governor Fintiri’s vision and attract more development to his council.

The development follows the June 13, 2026, local government elections, in which the PDP won all 21 chairmanship seats and 226 councillorship positions across the state.

The chairmen and councillors were inaugurated on June 15, months after Fintiri’s defection to the APC. Their move further consolidates the ruling party’s control of local government structures in Adamawa.
