Former Cross River State Governor and Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) presidential candidate Donald Duke has promised to reduce the price of petrol to about N300 per litre if elected president in 2027.

Duke made the pledge during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, while outlining his proposed approach to Nigeria’s petroleum sector.
He said petrol for domestic consumption should be priced according to production costs rather than international market prices.
According to Duke, Nigeria should set aside part of its crude oil production for local consumption and sell the remainder internationally.
“I will try and bring it to about N300,” he said, arguing that the proposal was achievable based on his calculations.
Duke criticized the current fuel pricing system, saying high petrol costs were placing additional pressure on Nigerians, particularly low-income earners.
He proposed allocating about 600,000 barrels of crude oil daily for domestic use while exporting the remaining production.
His comments come as Nigeria’s petrol market becomes increasingly supplied by local refineries. NMDPRA data showed domestic refineries accounted for about 77.9 percent of petrol supplied to the domestic market in the first half of 2026, while petrol consumption stood at 47.4 million litres per day in June.
Duke said reducing fuel costs would be central to his broader economic plan if elected president.
