Afrobeats singer Austine Kelechi, popularly known as Tekno Miles, has weighed in on Nigeria’s controversial “Olodo Uprising” debate, arguing that intellectual content is no longer what attracts audiences.

Tekno made the comment during a recent interview with Yanga FM Lagos while discussing the popularity of comedian and content creator Carter Efe.
According to the singer, entertainment does not necessarily have to be intelligent or intellectually demanding to be enjoyable.
“Intellectual no dey work again. Wetin I go do with your intellect? I can watch Carter Efe for hours and just be laughing at him, just being goofy because that’s interesting,” he said.
Tekno compared Carter Efe’s appeal with that of veteran Nollywood comedians Nkem Owoh, popularly known as Osuofia, and the late John Okafor, known as Mr. Ibu.
He argued that their popularity was also driven largely by their goofy and exaggerated characters rather than intellectual content.
The singer’s comments come amid an ongoing debate over the “Olodo Uprising,” a term popularized by rapper YCee to criticize what he described as the growing celebration of unserious or “brain-rot” content over education and intellectual achievement.
Tekno, however, maintained that the appeal of such content is not new, saying social media has simply made it easier for people to turn their personalities and humor into careers.
