The Anambra State First Lady, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has clarified that former governor Peter Obi is not the godfather of any of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s children.
The clarification followed remarks by Obi at the 22nd Nigerian Guild of Editors Conference in Enugu on Friday, where he said he and his wife were godparents to Soludo’s children.
Obi made the comment while dismissing suggestions that he and Soludo were at odds over recent political and financial disagreements.
However, in a statement on Saturday, Daniel Ezeigwe, media aide to the First Lady, said the claim was incorrect.
Ezeigwe explained that Nonye Soludo is the confirmation godmother to one of Obi’s daughters, while Obi’s wife, Margaret, is the baptismal godmother to one of Soludo’s daughters.
“Mr. Peter Obi is not a godfather to any of the children of Professor Chukwuma and Dr. Nonye Soludo,” the statement said.
The aide added that Obi may have misspoken but said the clarification was necessary following the widespread circulation of the video.
He stressed that the relationship between the two families remains cordial and urged the public to disregard any impression that Obi is the godfather of any of Soludo’s children.
Obi’s original remarks were also reported by several outlets, including Premium Times and Vanguard, following his appearance at the editors’ conference.
