Ikeja Electric Begins Refunds for Customers Who Paid for Meters

Ikeja Electric Plc has commenced refunds for customers who previously paid for electricity meters under the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) program.

The electricity distribution company announced this during its September virtual stakeholder engagement, where it provided updates on metering, customer service, and safety.

According to Ikeja Electric, eligible customers will receive the refunds as credits applied to their electricity vending transactions over the approved repayment period.

Customers can check their refund status online using their meter or account number. The company said its refund dashboard shows the meter cost, number of refunds made, monthly refund amount, total amount refunded, and the date of the latest refund.

Customers with complaints about their refunds were advised to use Ikeja Electric’s official complaint channels or visit the nearest undertaking office.

The company also warned customers against engaging unauthorized electricians to work on its infrastructure following recent fatalities linked to unsafe electrical activities.

Olaniyi Olayiwola, Head of Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment, urged customers not to allow unqualified persons to climb Ikeja Electric poles, work on power lines, tamper with electrical installations, or make illegal connections.

He advised customers who observe unsafe activities around Ikeja Electric infrastructure to report them through the company’s designated safety channels rather than intervening directly.

Olayiwola also urged communities to maintain adequate clearance around high-voltage power lines, citing encroachment on electricity infrastructure as a safety risk.

Kingsley Okotie, Head of Corporate Communications, urged customers to rely on Ikeja Electric’s official communication and complaint channels for accurate information and assistance.
