Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has described governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as “politically lazy” over their opposition to his Rainbow Coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.
Wike made the remark during an interview on Arise Television on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
The APC Governors Forum, led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, had said its members would not support any political arrangement that could weaken the APC or affect its candidates in the 2027 elections.
Responding, Wike said governors should deal with their political challenges in their respective states instead of using President Bola Tinubu as an excuse.
“They are politically lazy. When you have your local problems, don’t use Mr. President as your excuse,” he said.
Wike maintained that his support for Tinubu’s re-election did not mean he had abandoned the PDP or agreed that the party should not field candidates in other elections.
He also said the Rainbow Coalition was not an APC arrangement but a platform for politicians from different parties to mobilize support for Tinubu.
The former Rivers State governor said disagreements over his political activities predated his support for Tinubu, noting that he faced opposition from some politicians while serving as Rivers governor and later as FCT minister.
