2027: Kalu Backs Tinubu, Hamzat, Rejects Fuel Subsidy Return

Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has urged Nigerians in the Diaspora to support President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.

Kalu also endorsed Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, for the state’s governorship election.

The former Abia State governor spoke on Wednesday in Maryland, United States, where he interacted with Nigerians and Lagos indigenes in the Diaspora.

Kalu described Hamzat as an experienced politician with a deep understanding of governance, saying his long service in the Lagos State Government made him capable of leading the state.

On the economy, Kalu defended Tinubu’s reforms, saying Nigerians should give them time to produce results. He acknowledged that while there had been progress at the macroeconomic level, insecurity continued to affect businesses, farmers, and rural communities.

He also rejected calls for the return of fuel subsidy, describing it as unsuitable for Nigeria’s economic development.

According to Kalu, the government should instead introduce measures to cushion the impact of economic hardship on Nigerians.

He, however, urged the Tinubu administration to intensify efforts to tackle insecurity, saying improved security would enable farmers and businesses to return to full economic activity.

Kalu also appealed to Nigerians, particularly those from the South-East, to support the APC and avoid ethnic divisions ahead of the 2027 elections.
