Father Demands Justice as Four Children Die in Benue

A father of five, Emmanuel Ochayi, has called for a thorough investigation after four of his children died within three days in Amufu community, Edumoga, Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State.

The children, Abah, 12; Veronica, seven; Comfort, six; and Margaret, three, reportedly died between August 20 and 23 after falling ill.

Ochayi alleged that the children became sick days after consuming a soft drink reportedly given to them by a relative. However, the actual cause of their deaths has not been officially established.

The bereaved father is demanding justice and a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Meanwhile, the Edumoga Youths Association has petitioned the Benue State Commissioner of Police, Cletus Nwadiogbu, calling for an investigation, including post-mortem and toxicology examinations.

Police spokesperson DSP Peter Aondongu said the incident had been reported at the divisional level.

The four children are expected to be buried on September 4, pending developments in the investigation.
