The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, permission to present evidence of her recent acquittal in the United Kingdom in her ongoing legal battle with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Justice Inyang Ekwo approved the application on Wednesday after it was filed by her counsel, Godwin Iyinbor. The EFCC, represented by Mofesomo Oyetibo (SAN), did not oppose the request.
The application seeks to introduce fresh evidence relating to Alison-Madueke’s acquittal by a London court, which cleared her of all six bribery charges on June 17, following a high-profile trial.
Alison-Madueke is currently challenging the forfeiture of assets seized by the EFCC, which she is seeking to reclaim through the suit.
During proceedings, EFCC counsel argued that the application was unnecessary, noting it merely highlighted her acquittal abroad. However, he confirmed the agency had no objection.
Justice Ekwo subsequently granted the motion and adjourned the case to October 6, when both the preliminary objection and the substantive suit will be heard together.
