JUST IN: Nollywood Stars Gather in Lagos to Honour Alex Ekubo

Prominent figures from Nigeria’s entertainment, religious and public sectors gathered on Wednesday for a service of songs held in honour of late actor Alex Ekubo.

The memorial event took place at the Monarch Event Centre in the Lekki area of Lagos, drawing a large turnout of Nollywood personalities, gospel artistes and dignitaries.

Among those present was former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili.

Clergy members including Ituah Ighodalo and Jerry Eze led prayers and ministrations, while gospel musicians such as Mercy Chinwo, Moses Bliss, Peterson Okopi and Ebuka Songs performed.

The ceremony also attracted several Nollywood stars, including Funke Akindele, Ini Edo, Kate Henshaw, Omoni Oboli and Nancy Isime, alongside actors such as Ike Ogbonna and Kunle Remi.

Other attendees included comedian AY Makun and media personality Frank Edoho.

Ekubo passed away on May 11, 2026, in a Lagos hospital after battling advanced kidney cancer.

He is scheduled to be buried on June 18 in his hometown, Ujari Village, Abia State.
