A physically challenged retired senior official of Kosofe Local Government, Lagos State, Michael Olawale Odesanya, has appealed for the payment of his retirement benefits, months after leaving public service.

Odesanya, who retired on March 13, 2026, after 30 years in service, said the delay had left him struggling to meet basic needs, including the cost of medicines and supplements.
The former Head of Administration and Human Resources said he joined the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission on July 4, 1996 and rose to the rank of Chief Administrative Officer.
He accused the authorities of bureaucratic delays, saying he had submitted documents requested to process his benefits and was still awaiting payment.
Odesanya said the situation had exposed him to the difficulties faced by many retirees who depend on their pensions and other entitlements after leaving service.
However, the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission had earlier said the processing of Odesanya’s benefits was ongoing and attributed the delay to outstanding documentation, including his bank and Pension Fund Administrator statements. The commission said the process would continue once the requirements were completed.
The case comes amid renewed agitation by Lagos pensioners over delayed pension increases and outstanding entitlements. Pensioners have staged protests and threatened further action, although the Lagos State Government says it has paid billions of naira in pension benefits and accrued rights to thousands of retirees.
