Presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, has said Nigerians who support his 2027 bid cannot be ignored, insisting that their votes will count in determining the country’s next government.
Makinde spoke on Monday in Abuja at the commissioning of the APM presidential campaign headquarters, where he formally launched the “Reset Nigeria” campaign.
The campaign is centred on transparency, accountability, economic development, and ensuring that Nigeria’s resources improve the lives of citizens.
Addressing the issue of petrol prices, Makinde said he was not calling for a return to fuel subsidies. Instead, he argued that Nigerians should benefit directly from the country’s crude oil by ensuring that crude supplied to local refineries is priced fairly.
He also called for greater transparency across the oil and gas value chain, including production, refining, transportation, distribution, and retail pricing.
“Government must show its workings,” Makinde said, arguing that Nigerians should know how public decisions are made, how resources are spent, and who benefits.
The Oyo State governor recalled that many people initially dismissed his chances when he first contested the governorship but said the same could not be done to millions of voters.
“They may discount one candidate. But they cannot discount millions of Nigerians united behind a better future,” he said.
Former Anambra State governor and presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, who attended the event, said Makinde was qualified to contest the presidency and urged Nigerians to freely choose their leaders.
APM National Leader and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed also warned those underestimating the party and its candidate, saying, “Whoever disregards us is doing it at his own peril.”
APM vice-presidential candidate Lawal Daura urged voters to distinguish between candidates who are legally qualified to contest and those capable of winning elections.
APM National Chairman Yusuf Mamman Dantalle said the campaign headquarters would serve as the party’s operational base as it mobilizes for the 2027 elections.
The APM says the Makinde-Daura ticket will campaign on competence, accountability, security, and improved living conditions under its “Reset Nigeria” agenda.
