A political dispute has erupted between All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election, Senator Solomon Adeola, and former APC aspirant Senator Iyabo Obasanjo over alleged campaign expense demands.

Adeola, in a statement on Sunday, accused Obasanjo, now a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate, of requesting a refund for money spent during her governorship bid. He described the alleged demand as “insulting,” claiming it suggested a focus on personal gain rather than public service.
Speaking at a meeting with market leaders in Ogun State, Adeola said he had initially engaged Obasanjo in reconciliation talks but later concluded her political intentions were self-serving. He also alleged that her defection to the PDP was financially motivated.
In response, Obasanjo denied personally demanding any refund and instead accused Adeola of dishonesty. She said her team had presented three conditions during negotiations: a Senate ticket, reimbursement of campaign expenses, and inclusion of her supporters in his campaign.
According to her, Adeola failed to meet any of these requests and later attempted to persuade her to remain in the APC by offering money, contradicting his claim that the request was insulting.
Obasanjo, who left the APC in May citing lack of respect and exclusion from the party’s consensus process, also criticized the method that produced Adeola as the party’s candidate. She has since joined the PDP and emerged as its Ogun Central senatorial candidate.
The exchange marks an early escalation of political tensions ahead of the 2027 elections in Ogun State.
