Northern governors and other political stakeholders have rallied support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The stakeholders gathered on Sunday at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Conference Centre in Kaduna for an engagement with Northern Women Ulama from the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Those in attendance included Governors Uba Sani of Kaduna, Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe, Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, and Babagana Zulum of Borno.
Also present were the Minister of Defence, Bello Matawalle; Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Mustapha Rabe Darma; and the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Ibrahim Kabir Masari.
The meeting was organized as part of efforts to strengthen support for the Tinubu administration across the North.
Speaking at the event, Sani said the Northern Women Ulama had endorsed Tinubu for a second term because of what they described as his administration’s achievements in education, infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, and skills development.
He said programs such as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund and Technical and Vocational Education and Training had provided significant benefits to the region.
Sani urged the stakeholders to take the campaign for Tinubu to communities, wards, and local government areas across the North.
He also criticized attempts to frame the 2027 election along regional lines, urging political leaders to focus instead on development, inclusion, and good governance.
The Kaduna governor further claimed that the North had benefited significantly under Tinubu’s administration, saying available data could support the claim.
The gathering is the latest in a series of political engagements aimed at mobilizing Northern support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Earlier in August, several Northern governors and more than 500 Islamic scholars and clerics also endorsed the President’s re-election bid.
