Afrobeats star Davido has publicly criticized music promoter Paulo Okoye following his recent remarks questioning the state of the genre.
Paulo, who is also actress Iyabo Ojo’s partner, had earlier expressed concerns over the high booking fees of top Nigerian artists, asking whether Afrobeats was “dead or in a coma.”
His statement drew backlash from industry figures, including Grammy-nominated singer and executive Bankulli, who argued that Paulo’s comments were driven by his inability to afford leading acts.
Backing Bankulli, Davido took to the comment section to mock Paulo, writing, “PAUL O AKA PAUL BROKE.”
The exchange has stirred reactions across social media, highlighting ongoing debates about the commercial value and global position of Afrobeats.
The development comes nearly two years after Paulo publicly defended Davido over his controversial remarks about Nigeria’s economy during an appearance on The Big Homies House podcast.
Iyabo Ojo confirmed her relationship with Paulo in December 2022 during her 45th birthday celebration.
