The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that he remains in control of the political structure in Rivers State despite no longer serving as governor.
Wike spoke on Wednesday during a media chat in Port Harcourt, where he dismissed the suggestion that only a sitting governor could control a state’s political structure.
“You do not need to be governor before you can be in charge,” he said, describing himself as the “General Commander of the Political Infantry.”
The former Rivers governor also claimed influence over the political structure of the FCT, saying his role would be crucial ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike explained that his visit to Rivers was to reconnect with his political supporters and family, insisting that he would not rely solely on reports from Abuja.
He also said his political influence and achievements had attracted more opposition against him.
