Wike, Chinda Meet Fubara as Rivers Reconciliation Deepens

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday led leaders of the Rainbow Coalition to a meeting with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, at the governor’s private residence in Port Harcourt.

The meeting was attended by the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Rivers State, Kingsley Chinda, and former Senator Magnus Abe, among other political stakeholders.

Although the details of the meeting were not immediately disclosed, it is the first known visit by Wike to Fubara since the political crisis that strained their relationship and their subsequent reconciliation.

The meeting comes amid ongoing efforts to unite the rival political camps ahead of the 2027 general elections. A reconciliation committee led by Abe had earlier met with Fubara twice at the Government House to discuss the integration of his supporters into the new political arrangement.

Fubara had also publicly declared his support for the Wike-led Rainbow Coalition and endorsed Chinda as the coalition’s preferred governorship candidate in Rivers State.

Sources described Tuesday’s meeting as part of efforts to strengthen the reconciliation and build a common political front ahead of the 2027 elections.

The engagement brought together supporters of Fubara and leaders of the Rainbow Coalition, with the groups reportedly discussing greater cooperation and strategies for the 2027 polls.

The development further signals growing efforts to consolidate the political rapprochement between Wike and Fubara after years of disagreement that deeply divided the state’s political landscape.
