The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the invitation of social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), and the questioning of Assistant Inspector-General of Police Moshood Jimoh over allegations raised by the activist.
In a statement on Tuesday, police spokesperson CSP Ani Iniedu said AIG Jimoh, who heads the Force Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Abuja, had been invited for questioning as part of an internal review.
The Force also disclosed that VDM was invited through a letter dated July 30, 2026, asking him to appear before the Force CID to provide evidence supporting his public claims.
According to the police, the actions are part of efforts to ensure accountability and investigate credible allegations, regardless of the rank of those involved.
The statement followed recent comments by VDM concerning AIG Jimoh and an ongoing criminal case. Police clarified that the case had already been investigated and charged in court based on advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Describing the matter as subjudice, the Force warned against attempts to influence the case through media campaigns.
“The Force will not try this case in the media,” the statement said, stressing that due process must be followed.
The police reaffirmed that disciplinary actions are guided by the Constitution, the Police Act 2020, and other regulations, which apply equally to all officers.
While acknowledging citizens’ right to free expression and accountability, the Force cautioned against spreading unverified allegations, noting that false claims could lead to legal consequences.
It urged VDM to honor the invitation and cooperate with investigators, assuring that any officer found guilty would face appropriate sanctions.
