US Warns of Fresh Attacks on Saudi Airports

The United States Mission in Saudi Arabia has warned its citizens of further attacks on airports in Riyadh and Dammam, urging travellers to exercise extreme caution amid widespread flight disruptions.

In a security alert issued on October 11, the mission said it was aware of additional attacks on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and a targeted attack on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam.

It advised travelers to confirm flight schedules directly with airlines and airports, warning of possible cancellations, airspace closures, and other disruptions. It also recommended considering alternative transport options, including trains, buses, and private vehicles.

The warning followed a deadly attack on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport on Saturday, October 10, which Saudi authorities said killed at least 12 people and injured more than 300. A further attack on Sunday killed one person and injured 11 others, according to Reuters.

The attacks have severely disrupted air travel, with airport operations suspended and airlines cancelling flights. Reuters reported on Monday that Riyadh airport faced further cancellations as authorities responded to the security threat.

The US mission said consular services remained available to American citizens and outlined additional movement restrictions for US government personnel in parts of the kingdom.
