The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced plans to deport at least 124 Nigerians listed among what it described as the “worst of the worst” criminal offenders in the country.
In a statement published on Wednesday, the agency said the individuals were part of a broader immigration enforcement effort led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), targeting foreign nationals convicted of serious crimes.
DHS disclosed that the affected individuals had been arrested and profiled as part of its criminal register, which includes offenders from multiple countries. However, the agency did not provide details of the specific crimes committed by each individual or a timeline for their deportation.
“The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is highlighting the worst of the worst criminal aliens arrested by ICE,” the statement read, adding that the move aligns with ongoing mass deportation efforts under President Donald Trump’s immigration policy.
Although the full list of names and photographs has been published on the DHS website, officials have not confirmed when the deportations will begin.
This is not the first such move involving Nigerian nationals. In February 2026, DHS announced plans to deport at least 79 Nigerians over offences ranging from fraud and drug trafficking to violent crimes.
The development comes amid increased scrutiny of Nigeria by U.S. authorities. In June, Washington imposed partial visa restrictions on Nigerian citizens, citing concerns over identity management, visa overstays, and security screening.
Analysts say the latest action reflects a broader tightening of immigration enforcement as part of the Trump administration’s renewed crackdown on undocumented and criminal immigrants.
