President Bola Ahmed Tinubu did not list his primary and secondary school qualifications in the personal particulars submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2027 presidential election, according to documents published by the electoral body.
INEC released the nomination forms and supporting credentials of presidential and National Assembly candidates on August 1, in line with its election timetable, allowing the public to scrutinize candidates’ details and raise objections where necessary.
A review of Tinubu’s Form EC9 shows that only his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Business Administration from Chicago State University, obtained in 1979, was listed under educational qualifications. The sections designated for primary and secondary education were left blank.
However, the President attached copies of his university degree certificate and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate as part of his submission.
In the same document, Tinubu stated that he was born on March 29, 1952, in Lagos and identified his occupation as “Politician.” He also outlined his work history, including employment at Mobil Nigeria Limited between 1983 and 1992, and his tenure as Governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007.
He further listed his current employer as the Federal Government of Nigeria from 2023 to date and declared that he has never been dismissed from public service.
The submission comes amid heightened scrutiny of candidates’ credentials ahead of the 2027 elections. Civil society groups have recently called on INEC to clarify issues surrounding candidates’ academic records, reflecting ongoing public interest in the transparency of nomination documents.
Political parties were required to upload candidates’ nomination forms, including Form EC9, as part of the statutory process under the Electoral Act, with INEC mandated to publish the details for public review.
