A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, bail in the sum of ₦200 million.

Justice Mohammed Umar, who delivered the ruling on Tuesday, ordered Sowore to provide two sureties, one a traditional ruler from his community and the other a property owner in Abuja. The court also directed that the sureties be verified by the prosecution.
Sowore was further ordered to deposit his international passport with the court pending the outcome of the trial.
The Department of State Services (DSS) is prosecuting Sowore over alleged cybercrime and criminal defamation after he described President Bola Tinubu as “a criminal” in social media posts.
The ruling follows the earlier revocation of his bail and his remand at the Kuje Correctional Centre after he failed to appear in court.
The case has been adjourned to July 6 for the continuation of proceedings, when Sowore is expected to open his defense.
