School Under Siege: Gunmen Abduct Principal, Students in Kogi

Gunmen have abducted a school principal, a NECO official, and four students during an examination at Government Secondary School, Odo-Ekina, in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The attack occurred around 5:25 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, while students were writing the ongoing National Examinations Council (NECO) exam.

Police spokesperson ASP Salisu Oyiza confirmed the incident on Wednesday, stating that security operatives, alongside other agencies, launched an immediate rescue operation. One of the abducted students has since been rescued, while efforts continue to locate the remaining victims and arrest the attackers.

She added that top security officials, including the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Kankarofi, were en route to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment.

In a separate incident, police also confirmed that suspected bandits attacked a vehicle transporting a corpse along the Ochadamu-Ejule Expressway on July 9. The deceased, identified as Federal Road Safety Corps official Augustine Ikwue, was being taken from Lokoja to Benue State for burial.

The attackers abducted occupants of the vehicle, but the corpse and casket were later recovered and deposited at a mortuary in Ejule. Rescue operations for the victims are ongoing.

Police say further updates will be provided as investigations continue.
