Police Inspector Killed in Benue Checkpoint Attack

A police inspector has been killed after suspected armed herders attacked a security checkpoint in Ayilamo, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), supported by a Mobile Police team, responded to the attack, forcing the assailants to flee into nearby bushes.

The security personnel subsequently launched a search operation in the area and recovered the body of the slain inspector.

His remains were deposited at the Ayilamo Hospital mortuary for autopsy and other necessary procedures.

Following the attack, troops intensified patrols and surveillance around Uzer, Ayilamo, and other border communities in Logo LGA as efforts continued to track down the suspects.

Residents were urged to remain calm and provide security agencies with useful information that could assist in the investigation and prevent further attacks.

The incident comes amid continued security concerns in parts of Logo LGA, where Ayilamo and surrounding communities have recorded repeated attacks by suspected armed herders in recent years.
