Oyewole Confirmed as Supreme Court Justice by Senate

The Senate has confirmed Justice Joseph Oyewole as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

The confirmation was done on Tuesday after the Senate considered a report from its Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters. The committee is chaired by Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire from Ondo Central.

While presenting the report, Senator Adegbonmire asked the Senate to approve the committee’s findings on the nomination of Justice Oyewole, who was previously a Justice of the Court of Appeal.

President Bola Tinubu had earlier sent a letter to the Senate requesting Justice Oyewole’s confirmation, in line with the 1999 Constitution. The letter was read during plenary by Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

After the request was received, Akpabio referred it to the Judiciary Committee for screening. The committee completed its work and submitted its report, leading to the Senate’s approval of the appointment on Tuesday.

Justice Oyewole’s confirmation officially makes him a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
