Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi has confirmed the completion of his nomination process with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 general election.

Obi disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday via his verified X account, following confirmation from NDC National Leader Seriake Dickson that his name had been uploaded to INEC’s portal.
The development comes amid ongoing legal uncertainty surrounding the party after a court ruling sought to deregister the NDC. Party leaders, however, maintain that the process remains valid after filing an appeal and securing access to INEC’s portal.
In his statement, Obi criticized Nigeria’s political leadership, questioning whether it is adequately focused on the country’s pressing challenges. He cited insecurity, widespread hunger, and alleged financial mismanagement as urgent national issues requiring immediate attention.
The former Anambra State governor also urged INEC to publish the academic credentials of all candidates, arguing that greater transparency would strengthen public trust in the electoral process.
Obi stressed that Nigeria’s challenges demand a departure from “politics as usual,” calling instead for leadership driven by competence, integrity, and accountability.
The NDC candidate emerged earlier this year as the party’s flagbearer for the 2027 election, positioning himself for another presidential contest after the 2023 polls.
