The Senate has ordered an investigation into the death of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member Etimbuk Daniel at an orientation camp in Enugu State, following concerns over alleged delays in medical treatment.

The resolution followed a motion of urgent public importance moved on Thursday by Senator Aniekan Bassey, representing Akwa Ibom North-East.
Bassey said Daniel, a former Students’ Union Government president of Akwa Ibom State University, reportedly died after developing complications from a headache and allegedly experiencing delays in receiving adequate medical attention at the camp clinic.
The senator called for a review of medical services at NYSC camps, including the availability of qualified health workers, functional facilities and emergency referral systems.
The Senate directed relevant committees, working with the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS), to investigate the circumstances surrounding Daniel’s death and determine whether negligence was involved.
The lawmakers also called for a broader assessment of healthcare facilities at NYSC orientation camps nationwide and observed a minute of silence in honour of the deceased.
Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, who presided over the session, urged the committees to conduct a thorough investigation.
