The National Coordinator and Executive Director of the National Brands Development and Made in Nigeria Special Project Office, George Nwabueze, has released additional documents to defend the legitimacy of the office following allegations by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission that it is a fake government agency.
Nwabueze posted the documents on LinkedIn on Sunday, including a July 19, 2010 letter purportedly issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
The letter, addressed to “Buchi George,” then Executive Director of The Hats Centre in Owerri, acknowledged a proposal for a “Made in Naija” project to be held in Ireland as part of Nigeria’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
Nwabueze cited the letter as evidence that the initiative had links with the OSGF since 2010, questioning how a program he said had existed for 16 years could only now be described as fake.
However, the authenticity of the 2010 letter has not been independently verified.
Nwabueze had earlier released an October 3, 2025, letter purportedly issued by the OSGF approving his appointment as National Coordinator/Executive Director of the Made in Nigeria Project Office for five years. The document also stated that the office would operate temporarily from Room B53 within the OSGF complex.
The project’s website similarly describes it as operating under the OSGF and lists Nwabueze as its Executive Director and National Coordinator. Its framework says the project would be overseen by the Permanent Secretary in the Political and Economic Affairs Office of the OSGF.
The claims, however, conflict with the position of the ICPC. The commission said on Friday that it had uncovered the National Brands Development and Made in Nigeria Special Project Office as another alleged fake government agency operating from space within the OSGF without presidential authorization.
ICPC Chairman Musa Aliyu said President Bola Tinubu had ordered Nwabueze’s arrest and the immediate suspension of three permanent secretaries in the OSGF over the matter.
The latest documents released by Nwabueze therefore provide evidence of claimed correspondence and involvement with the OSGF but do not by themselves resolve whether the office had the legal and presidential approval required to operate as a Federal Government entity.
The OSGF had not, as of the latest reports, publicly clarified the status or authenticity of the documents released by Nwabueze.
