Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Saturday visited pupils and teachers rescued from the Oriire abduction at the Nigerian Army’s 2 Division Medical Centre, where they are receiving treatment following their release.
The Presidency confirmed that the victims are undergoing medical examinations and will be handed over to the Oyo State Government after clearance.
The victims were abducted on May 15, 2026, when gunmen attacked schools in the Oriire area of Ogbomoso, taking more than 40 pupils and teachers.
President Bola Tinubu praised the military, police, and intelligence agencies for securing their release after more than 50 days in captivity, noting that the operation led to the arrest of eight suspects and the neutralization of others.
He described the rescue as a major relief for families and the nation, while expressing sympathy for the victims and the relatives of a teacher killed during the incident.
Tinubu also commended the Oyo State Government for its cooperation and urged authorities to strengthen security around schools to prevent future attacks.
