Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Professor Kingsley Moghalu, has denied being part of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s policy team for the 2027 presidential election.
Atiku’s African Democratic Congress (ADC) campaign structure, unveiled on Thursday, listed Moghalu among members of its Policy Team, headed by economist and banker Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.
However, Moghalu said he was neither consulted nor asked for his consent before his name was included.
In a statement on Facebook, he said: “I was not consulted and did not give my consent to my name being published as a member of the ADC candidate’s policy team.”
He added that he was not a member of Atiku’s campaign “even unofficially or in any advisory capacity.”
Moghalu said he withdrew from partisan politics in 2022 and currently maintains a non-partisan position. He identified his current engagements as president of the Institute for Governance and Economic Transformation (IGET Africa) and CEO of Sogato Strategies.
He said his commitment to Nigeria remained unchanged but did not require partisan affiliation.
“I have adopted the path of statesmanship, not partisanship,” he said.
