Lagos Deepens Emergency Response with New Firefighters, Stations

The Lagos State Government has strengthened its emergency response system with the induction of 150 new firefighters and the commissioning of a fire station in Oworonshoki.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration has now recruited a total of 685 firefighters since 2020, following earlier intakes of 100 personnel in 2020 and 435 in 2022. The latest recruits completed a six-month training program at the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service Technical Training Centre in Ikeja, earning certification for active duty.

Speaking at the induction ceremony, Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, urged the new officers to uphold professionalism, discipline, and continuous learning in the line of duty.

She described firefighting as a demanding profession requiring courage, teamwork, and a commitment to protecting lives and property.

The newly inaugurated Oworonshoki Fire Station brings the number of public fire stations built under the current administration to 11, with an additional facility operated through a public-private partnership.

Adeseye credited the state government’s sustained investment in personnel, infrastructure, and modern equipment for improving emergency response capacity, assuring residents of faster and more efficient fire services across Lagos.
