The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has disengaged some street sweepers, their supervisors, and the service provider responsible for them over indiscriminate waste dumping along the Oworonshoki-Berger axis.
The authority also arrested two suspected illegal waste dumpers in the area.
LAWMA Managing Director, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said the action followed sustained surveillance and investigations into the road median, which had become a recurring waste hotspot.
According to him, some of the affected sweepers confessed to dumping refuse at the location.
Gbadegesin said the disengagement was necessary to enforce accountability among personnel and contractors responsible for keeping Lagos clean.
In a related development, LAWMA enforcement officers arrested two suspected illegal dumpers. One of them, identified as Timileyin Ojo, was allegedly caught using a wheelbarrow to dump waste on the road median, while the second suspect, a suspected cart pusher, was arrested for allegedly engaging in unauthorized waste collection.
The suspects were taken to the Oshodi Task Force Office, also known as the Mobile Court, for further investigation and possible prosecution under Lagos State environmental laws.
Gbadegesin warned that LAWMA would continue monitoring waste hotspots and sanction anyone found violating waste disposal regulations, regardless of their position.
He urged residents, businesses, and waste collectors to use approved disposal channels and patronize only authorized Private Sector Participants (PSPs).
