Katsina State Governor Radda has approved the establishment of a four-member committee to work with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and MTN Nigeria on expanding digital infrastructure and connectivity across the state.
Governor Radda gave the approval on Thursday when he received NCC Executive Vice Chairman and CEO, Dr. Aminu Maida, and representatives of MTN Nigeria at the Government House in Katsina.
He said the administration was moving from discussions to implementation, directing the committee to work with MTN on clear technical, commercial, and delivery plans.
The committee comprises the Director-General of the Katsina State Investment Promotion Agency, Ibrahim Tukur Jikamshi; the Executive Secretary of the Katsina State Development Management Board; the Director-General of the Katsina State Directorate of ICT; and the General Manager of the Urban and Regional Planning Board.
It will engage MTN, form a joint technical team, identify priority areas, and develop a business case and implementation plan for the state government.
MTN proposed expanding network coverage to underserved and rural communities, agricultural areas, markets, schools, healthcare facilities, and other economic centers, subject to technical and commercial assessments.
The NCC also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Katsina’s digital transformation and improving access to telecommunications services across the state.
During the visit, Maida also presented learning computers to Sarki Dikko College, his late father’s alma mater, and 117 tablets to pupils of Garama Primary School to support digital education.
The development builds on Katsina’s ongoing efforts to expand broadband infrastructure, including reforms aimed at facilitating fiber-optic deployment and improving connectivity across the state.
