‘Focus on Governance’ — Nigerians Slam Oborevwori Over Church Video

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has come under criticism after a video showing him and his wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, performing ushering duties during a church service went viral.

The couple were seen ushering worshippers and participating in praise and worship during Sunday service at Winners Chapel, Osubi, Delta State.

The video was shared online by the governor’s media aide, Ossai Ovie Success, who wrote that Oborevwori and his wife were active in their ushering duties and danced during the service.

The footage has sparked mixed reactions, with some Nigerians praising the governor for serving in church despite his position, while others questioned the motive behind publicizing the act.

Critics argued that the governor should focus more on governance and addressing challenges facing residents rather than public displays of religious devotion.

One X user, @KhalebIO, wrote, “Focus on governance and leave this nonsense posturing,” while @JoshJayv02 described the act as “misplaced priorities.”

Another user, @I_amDRE, questioned the timing of the appearance, asking how often the governor had performed such duties since assuming office.

@BanksTariq also questioned how the church activity would translate into development for Delta State, citing concerns over infrastructure, industrial development, and youth empowerment.

However, the criticism is not new. Oborevwori was also filmed performing ushering duties at Winners Chapel’s Shiloh 2025 program in Ota, Ogun State, in December 2025. That appearance similarly divided opinion, with some Nigerians describing it as humility and others calling it political posturing.

Reports on Sunday’s service said Oborevwori is an elder in the Living Faith Church and has previously participated in church service activities. The latest event also featured service awards for the governor and his wife, while the resident pastor reportedly urged congregants to support Oborevwori’s 2027 re-election bid.

The latest video has therefore renewed debate over whether the governor’s participation reflects personal religious commitment or political image-building.
