D’Tigress Players Receive $100,000 Each

Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have received the naira equivalent of $100,000 each as part of the Presidential Reward for their 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket triumph.

The National Sports Commission (NSC) said the accounts of the players were credited on September 9, 2026, while each team official received the equivalent of $50,000.

The commission said all recipients had confirmed receipt of the payments, completing the cash component of the reward package announced by President Bola Tinubu.

Tinubu had promised each player a three-bedroom flat in Abuja, the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) national honor, and $100,000, while officials were to receive $50,000 each. The housing documents and national honors were presented to the team in March 2026.

D’Tigress secured a record fifth consecutive and seventh overall AfroBasket title in August 2025 after defeating Mali 78-64 in the final in Côte d’Ivoire.

The NSC said the completed reward package reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to recognizing and supporting Nigerian athletes.
