Nigeria’s 11 electricity distribution companies (DisCos) collected ₦603.64 billion from customers in the second quarter of 2026, despite recording high electricity distribution losses, according to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

NERC disclosed this in its second-quarter operational and commercial performance report published on September 29, 2026.
The report showed that the DisCos billed customers ₦744.67 billion for electricity supplied but collected only 81.06 per cent of the amount, leaving ₦141.03 billion uncollected.
Aggregate Technical, Commercial, and Collection (ATC&C) losses stood at 36.23 percent, exceeding the regulatory target of 16.92 percent by 19.31 percentage points. The losses translated to an estimated ₦129.07 billion in lost revenue.
Although the losses remained high, they improved from 37.44 percent recorded in the first quarter. However, all 11 DisCos failed to meet their regulatory loss-reduction targets, with Kaduna DisCo recording the highest loss rate at 67.70 percent.
The companies remitted ₦385.44 billion out of ₦410.38 billion invoiced by the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc and the Market Operator, representing a remittance rate of 93.92 percent.
NERC also reported that DisCos metered an additional 350,270 customers during the quarter, bringing the national metering rate to 62 percent.
