“Democracy Must Survive” — Dickson Speaks Out

Seriake Dickson has called for the protection of Nigeria’s democratic system, insisting it must endure despite ongoing political challenges.

In a statement shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, the National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress said the country is facing pressure from what he described as “anti-democratic forces” but expressed confidence that the situation would eventually pass.

Dickson, a former governor of Bayelsa State, said he trusts the judiciary to uphold the rule of law and resist being used to undermine democratic processes.

He also criticized certain political actors, alleging that individuals he had previously supported have turned against him by using state institutions to remove officials from office, target citizens, and spread misinformation.

Despite these concerns, Dickson noted growing support for his party, stating that more Nigerians are joining and actively participating in its activities.

He emphasized that sustaining a multi-party democracy remains critical to keeping Nigeria on the right path.
