Court Revokes Bail, Remands Ekiti APC Aspirant Olawumi

An Ekiti State Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has remanded former All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant Abimbola Olajumoke Olawumi in custody after revoking the bail earlier granted to her.

Olawumi is facing a four-count charge bordering on alleged blackmail, cyberbullying, threatening messages, and defamation against the Chief Executive Officer of YSJ Limited, Mrs. Yemisi Joluwe, and two others.

She was initially arraigned on July 23 and pleaded not guilty to the charges. Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun granted her bail on self-recognition and adjourned the case to July 28.

However, she failed to appear in court at the next sitting, prompting the court to revoke her bail and order her remand. Her counsel reportedly told the court that she was unable to attend due to health challenges.

The court has now adjourned the matter until September 15 for further proceedings.

The case followed a petition by Joluwe, who accused Olawumi of making false and damaging claims against her and YSJ Limited.

Joluwe said the company approached the court to protect its reputation, employees, and business interests, insisting that it would seek a retraction, public apology, and damages over the alleged statements.

She also said security agencies were investigating allegations linking Olawumi to the kidnapping and murder of YSJ staff, while stressing that the company remained focused on its agricultural and youth empowerment programs.

YSJ Limited has partnered with the Ekiti State Government on agricultural development and youth empowerment projects in the state. The state government has previously commended the company for its role in creating opportunities for young farmers.

Olawumi, meanwhile, has denied the allegations against her, while the legal proceedings continue.
