The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the police and the Attorney-General of the Federation to allow detained Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi access to his lawyers.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu gave the order on Thursday while hearing a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by Adeyemi, who allegedly presented himself as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, PFIPC.
However, the court declined to grant his request for bail or order that he be allowed access to doctors of his choice, pending a response from the respondents.
Justice Egwuatu directed the Inspector-General of Police, the police and the Attorney-General of the Federation to, within 72 hours, show cause why Adeyemi’s requests should not be granted.
The matter was adjourned until September 9.
Adeyemi has been in police custody since his arrest in Osun State in July. He is also facing an eight-count charge bordering on alleged forgery, fraud and impersonation, with his arraignment earlier fixed for September 30.
Police allege that Adeyemi forged official documents and appointment letters and falsely presented himself as the head of the PFIPC, which investigators described as a non-existent federal government agency.
Adeyemi has denied the allegations.
