The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has launched a fully electronic registration system for capital market operators, marking a major step in its push to modernize Nigeria’s capital market.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Commission said the new e-Registration platform, hosted on its ePortal, enables key regulatory processes to be completed entirely online. These include application submissions, reviews, approvals, and official communications.
The SEC said the digital system will eliminate manual processes for services currently covered, helping to reduce delays, cut administrative bottlenecks, and improve transparency for applicants tracking their submissions.
According to the regulator, the platform is designed to strengthen oversight through standardized workflows, secure digital records, and improved audit trails, while also enhancing the quality of data available for regulatory decisions.
“The new platform represents a major step towards creating a seamless digital regulatory ecosystem,” the Commission said.
The rollout will be implemented in phases. The current phase applies only to post-registration services for existing capital market operators, while new registration applications will be added later.
The SEC urged operators to familiarize themselves with the platform and comply with implementation timelines to ensure a smooth transition.
The Commission added that the initiative supports its broader goal of improving ease of doing business, boosting transparency, and increasing investor confidence in Nigeria’s capital market.
