Blast at Riyadh Airport Injures Several, Flights Suspended

Several people were injured in a blast at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday, October 10, prompting evacuations and the suspension of airport operations.

According to Reuters, witnesses reported an explosion inside the airport, with several injured people seen on the ground. More than a dozen ambulances were also reported at the scene.

Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation authority confirmed that the attack caused injuries and forced operations to be suspended. No group had immediately claimed responsibility for the latest incident.

The blast came amid escalating missile attacks by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi rebels against Saudi Arabia. Earlier strikes at the airport this week killed people, injured several others, and damaged a Saudia Airlines aircraft.

The incident disrupted air travel, with flights diverted or cancelled. Kuwait Airways, Etihad Airways, and Qatar Airways were among the carriers that suspended or cancelled services to Riyadh.

Airport authorities urged passengers to contact their airlines and confirm their flight status before travelling.

The attacks have raised security concerns ahead of major energy and investment conferences scheduled to take place in Riyadh. Organizers, however, said the events would proceed as planned.

The Houthis have warned airlines against using Saudi airspace, declaring it a military operations zone amid the intensifying conflict in Yemen.
