Benue 2027: Hembe Promises One Term, Pushes Power Shift

The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benue State, Herman Hembe, has pledged to serve only one term if elected in 2027, citing the need to ensure fairness and power rotation in the state.

Hembe made the declaration on Thursday in Makurdi during the unveiling of his running mate, John Abba, before party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters.

He said the one-term promise was aimed at allowing Benue South, yet to produce a democratically elected governor, to take its turn in 2031. He warned that electing candidates from other zones in 2027 could delay the district’s chances by another eight years.

Hembe noted that the selection of his running mate followed a transparent process led by party stakeholders and the ADC national leadership, urging members to support the outcome and work towards victory.

He added that the ADC was contesting all elective positions in the state and stressed the importance of legislative backing for effective governance.

The candidate also promised to grant full financial and administrative autonomy to the state’s 23 local government areas to strengthen grassroots development and security.

Hembe expressed confidence in the party’s chances in the 2027 elections and predicted nationwide support for ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.

At the event, ADC senatorial candidate for Benue South, Dr. David Olofu, said the party had credible candidates capable of winning the trust of voters.
