The Nigerian Army has rescued Mrs Adonkie, wife of retired Brigadier General Basil Adonkie, hours after she was abducted from her residence in Abuja.
Mrs Adonkie was abducted at about 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1, prompting troops of the Guards Brigade and Army Headquarters Garrison to launch a coordinated pursuit operation.
According to the Army, troops acting on credible intelligence advanced through the Aco Estate–Goza Community axis and made contact with the kidnappers.
The abductors reportedly abandoned the victim and fled into nearby bushes as troops closed in. She was subsequently rescued at Angwan Sabo Village.
In a follow-up operation on Wednesday, September 2, troops of the 176 Guards Battalion and 197 Special Forces Battalion intercepted two suspected members of the kidnapping syndicate near Gaube Village in Kuje Area Council.
The Army said the troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine and 19 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition from the suspects.
Mrs Adonkie has since been reunited with her family, while the arrested suspects remain in custody for profiling.
The Army said clearance and tracking operations were continuing to apprehend other members of the syndicate.
